JESS DOUGLAS

I have analysed and deconstructed 3 images by Jess Douglas which hold key elements that are of importance to me and my experiments. The elements that I will analyse are how she composes her illustrations with how they are central and consist of free lines which are unconnected and her use of little colour. I have looked at the simplicity of Douglas's images and how Jess has taken a complex visual and has communicated this to an audience in a minimalist way.

I have briefly analysed this image via hand drawn thumbnails to give me a hands on approach to understanding why and how the images are composed.
This is a good workshop for me for when I apply these key elements to my experiments.

I have deconstructed this image digitally, allowing me to analyse the image more in depth. I have looked at elements which shows how reportage illustration communicates an understanding to an audience of the complexities of an urban environment, which will able me to have a better understanding of how to approach and apply them to my experiments. I have looked at view points, 3d and depth, composition of exteriors, text, colour, blank space and line work. I  have indicated those key points with the use of red lines.

This is another image which I found to be of importance to me with analysing the key elements of composition and colour.

I have looked at how the key elements take effect with creating depth and 3d, symmetrical balances and juxtapositions.

This is the final image I chose to analyse and deconstruct by Jess Douglas.
This is a great example of the key elements that I am analysing within her work.
With how the focus is on one building, which has been taken from the urban environment and put into isolation.
However, there is still that strong impression of complexity even though it is just one image executing this in a minimalist way.

I have deconstructed and analysed this image in order to show how Jess Douglas has taken a complex image, isolated it and composed it on the page. I have analysed how those key points create depth and 3d, empty spaces, detailed areas, juxtaposition of dark and light lines, and view point.
