--------------- VIEW POINT 1---------------
After deconstructing and analysing Olivier Kugler's work in regard to how his reportage work communicates to an audience the complexities of an urban environment I have taken the key elements from his illustrations, which execute this and have applied them to my own experiments.
The key elements in which I have experimented with are a composition of view points, digital colour, and incorporating text.
This is the one of 3 view points for my experiment. I have incorporated digital colour, but unlike Kugler I have highlighted certain areas rather than the entire image, as this is how I would normally incorporate colour. I have also added text as different way of communicated within my illustration.
I first made a simple sketch on location of this, and have used a photograph as reference for colour and detail. I then cleaned my image up and worked into, allowing me to digitally enhance the experiment.
I have briefly analysed my experiment through several thumbnail drawings and have deconstructed it more in-depth digitally- allowing me to completely take the image apart and show how I had constructed it.
This is the image after it had been worked into and cleaned - ready for digital colour.
Below shows the process of how I finalised that first view point experiment.
--------------- VIEW POINT 2 ---------------
This is my second view point experiment working with elements from Olivier Kugler's work.
I made a quick sketch of another view point from the environment I was in, which I will use in the composition with view point 1. Incorporating various view points from one place in this contemporary, minimalist style demonstrates the complexities of an urban environment.
I made several thumbnail drawings of the experiment of view point 2 and looked at how empty space, balance and symmetry has been used.
Below shows how the experiment was put together, by completely deconstructing it.
I have indicated in red and green the key elements which I have taken from Kugler's work and incorporated into my experiments. I have looked at pattern, symmetry, balance, line work, colour, juxtaposition and vanishing points. All of which are important to me and my experiments.
--------------- VIEW POINT 3 ---------------
This is the third view point for my composition experiment.
I made a sketch from another view point, which was from outside of the coffee shop, which I scanned and worked into adding the elements from Olivier Kugler's work, which execute how reportage illustration can communicate an understanding to an audience of the complexities of an urban environment.
I have done this by incorporating digital colour, pattern and line work.
I have deconstructed and analysed this experiment in order to show that I have a clear understanding of how the key elements from Oliver Kugler's reportage work, have the effect of complexity and simplicity and how I have applied this to my own experiments.
I have used thumbnails as means to analyse briefly how the experiment is constructed with the use of balance, shapes within the image, horizontal and vertical lines.
I have deconstructed this image and have shown how these elements have been used to show how reportage illustration can communicate to an audience the complexities of an urban environment in a simplistic way. I have analysed the image looking at how the elements have created depth and 3d, symmetrical balance, juxtaposition, empty spaces, vanishing and view points.
--------------- MY EXPERIMENT---------------
This is the final experiment for working with view points. I have incorporated all three images to make a new whole image.
Below I have shown how I have taken elements from Kugler's work and have applied it to my own experiment. I have highlighted in red how I have followed a similar approach to presenting different view points in one image. I have shown how the portrait of the man in the lorry is the most dominant image, as the scale is enlarge more than the other images. I have applied this to my experiment in a similar way with my portrait.
