The two main key elements that I wanted to experiment with from Veronica Lawlor's work was her how she juxtaposes the rough sketch coloured pencil lines against simple line work. I wanted to experiment with the colour and the medium in this way as it simplifies a complex area and communicates this to an audience.
Although my experiment of the urban environment does not involve a lot of colour apposed to Lawlor's New York image I have applied as much colour as I could in regard to the colour on the shop windows. What I have done is used the colour to keep a balance within the image similar to how Lawlor has. This also gives the illustration more depth and gives it that minimalist style.
I started experimenting with Veronica Lawlor's technique to my to fill empty spaces with her use of strong sketchy crayon lines - I experimented and applied this element in several ways to my image.
